Curriculum - Evidence Based Protocols

What is in Cognitive Therapy for Social Anxiety Disorder (CT-SAD)?

Our course provides practical, evidence-based training in the full CT-SAD protocol (Clark et al., 1995), a first line intervention recommended by NICE.

Designed for mental health professionals, it offers step-by-step guidance to effectively treat Social Anxiety Disorder using targeted cognitive and behavioural techniques.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Understanding the core features and maintenance of SAD.

  • Identifying and challenging threat-focused appraisals.

  • Designing personalised behavioural experiments and exposures.

  • Using video and still-image feedback to correct distorted self-images.

  • Reframing catastrophic thinking and past social traumas.

Learn how to help clients shift from avoidance to confident social engagement with this proven therapeutic approach.

What is in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Panic Disorder?

This focused training equips CBT-trained therapists with the skills to effectively treat Panic Disorder. Participants will learn to apply evidence-based techniques with a special emphasis on interoceptive exposure, a core intervention for reducing fear of bodily sensations. The course also covers the physiology of anxiety, CBT case formulation, and strategies to troubleshoot common therapy challenges such as avoidance and treatment drop-out.

Pink Building

Key Topics Covered:

  • Overview of Panic Disorder and the panic cycle

  • Physiology of anxiety and fear conditioning

  • CBT approach and psychoeducation techniques

  • Designing and implementing interoceptive exposures

  • Managing avoidance, resistance, and relapse prevention

Acceptance-Enhanced Behavioural Therapy for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours

This training provides therapists with practical skills to treat Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours (BFRBs) with a focus on Trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder), using the Acceptance-Enhanced Behavioural Therapy (AEBT) approach.

AEBT integrates behavioural strategies with acceptance-based techniques to address both the urge-driven and emotional aspects of BFRBs.

Participants will learn how to conduct effective assessments, teach clients self-monitoring, apply acceptance exercises to reduce struggle with urges, and implement habit reversal training (HRT) including stimulus control techniques.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Understanding BFRBs: Trichotillomania and related conditions.

  • AEBT model and treatment rationale.

  • Assessment and self-monitoring strategies.

  • Acceptance-based interventions to reduce avoidance.

  • Habit Reversal Training (HRT) and Stimulus Control.

  • Supporting long-term behaviour change.

This skills-based training equips therapists to deliver Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Trainees will learn how to accurately identify OCD, including commonly overlooked presentations, and apply ERP effectively using the inhibitory learning model, the most up-to-date approach to exposure therapy.

The course covers structured assessment using the Y-BOCS, client preparation and psychoeducation, creating fear hierarchies, setting up homework assignments, and managing common obstacles in therapy. Therapists will also learn how to use practical forms and tools to guide treatment and support clients in returning to normal routines post-treatment.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Identifying OCD, including commonly missed subtypes

  • ERP treatment protocol: step-by-step guidance

  • Y-BOCS assessment and tracking

  • Psychoeducation and preparing clients for ERP

  • Designing exposure tasks and fear hierarchies

  • Homework planning and troubleshooting barriers

  • Inhibitory learning approach to ERP

  • Supporting “return to normal” routines
